Hebi has a long history and splendid culture. It was the capital of the late Shang Dynasty and the capital of the State of Wei and the State of Zhao during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods. Xunxian County, known as Liyang in ancient times, is a famous historical and cultural city as hometown of Duanmu Ci (courtesy name Zigong), originator of Confucian business. Xunxian Temple Fair has a history of more than 1,600 years and is known as the earliest ancient temple fair in North China. Qixian County, known as Zhaoge, is a cradle of the Shang civilization and a mythological place from Investiture of the Gods. Yunmeng Mountain in Qixian County is known as the site of the first ancient Chinese military academy. Qihe River is the mother river of people living in Hebi. It has nurtured Qihe Culture and is praised in many poems and historical records. In the Classic of Poetry, 39 poems depict the local customs and natural scenery along the Qihe River. Therefore, it is called River of Chinese Poetry by the Poetry Institute of China.
